Cabbages in Bowler Hats

Nude shoes. Apparently the Duchess of Cambridge – have you noticed how now she’s one of the royals the press don’t give her nasty little nicknames any more? – has started the trend of nude shoes. I think they’re horrible! Give me a pair of white stilettoes any day, I’m an Essex girl – no that was a joke! I am an Essex girl and I did own a pair of white stilettoes once, but I also owned black ones, grey ones and red ones. This was before I broke my foot and had to stop wearing high heels. Personally I think those nude shoes look as if someone’s pulled their tights on and forgotten to take their shoes off first.

And the cabbages in bowler hats? Tis an experiment. Frances has noticed on her blog stats how some posts get a lot more hits than others which prompted me to look at mine and it is indeed strange. Just a bit of silliness for a wet Sunday.

Tilly says she would have written a post but she’s very busy – as you can see. And yes, that chair really is as grubby as it looks!

  1. I suppose the thinking is nude shoes present an unbroken legline and make the wearer's legs look longer, but I agree they are horrible. Good point about the tights (hehe), I hate it when skaters do that - think the white skates look much nicer.

Oh bless, doesn't Tilly look comfy on that chair.

Hope the cabbages in bowler hats bring you lots of visitors.

  2. I read about "nude shoes" in the Mail on Sunday today. There were a lot of "do's and don'ts" when picking the right pair. It was way too complicated for my poor brain to compute. I'll stick to my Hush Puppies and if I ever get papped by the Paparazi then I'll just have to wing it - or start a fashion trend all by myself! I liked your blog title BTW - it hooked me in (editors love that opening hook don't they?) - but then your blog always does ;o) - Caroline x

  3. Oh dear! I'm wearing nude shoes in one of the photos in my latest blog entry. However, that was back in 1983. At last, I am a trendsetter!

  4. Ooh yes, white skates every time, Suz! That chair is very comfortable and supportive, but no humans ever get to use it!

Thank you, Caroline :-) I'm determined to wear decent proper shoes with a heel when my youngest gets married (prob next year) but they won't be nude!

Oops, sorry Jacula - but I must say your whole outfit in that photo looks great :-)

  5. I think those nude shoes just look like the wearer couldn't quite decide what colour to buy - a bit like when people paint house walls magnolia. Maybe that's because I prefer strong colours such as purple? (for shoes and walls)

  6. I think I'll stick to flip flops! (Purple since you ask.)

  7. I think nude only suits bare bodies. Nude-coloured bare bodies, that is.

  8. Hi Teresa and Tilly,
Yes, tis I, Penny the Jack Russell dog and modest internet star. You must keep this a secret, Gary, the human I allow to live with me, has a pair of white stilettos and he's not even from Essex :)
And Tilly, good to see you relaxing while you formulate your next 'pawsting'. After all, us dogs need a bit of rest before we prove how much better we are at writing than humans.
And speaking of human, Gary thanks you Teresa for leaving such a supportive comment on his latest posting.
Pawsitive wishes and doggy kisses, your way, Penny xx

  9. Caught me, Patsy - I bought a load of magnolia paint in the Focus closing down sale - but you can dress it up with colour! My sister used to have some high purple suede boots - they were the best boots I've ever seen!

Quite right too, Helen! Purple is a great colour!

    My thinking too, Frances.

Hi Penny! Don't worry, I won't tell anyone about Gary's stilettoes. Tilly says she's deep in thought about her next pawsting xx

  10. That title definitely catches the attention! Hadn't thought about nude shoes, but I too prefer white skating boots.

  11. I've noticed I get far more comments on my blog when I post a picture of Harvey. I'll have to take a photo of him in his chair. Given the relative sizes of dog and chair you would not think it would be a good fit, but he seems comfy.

Nude shoes - well, I've never exactly been a dedicated follower of fashion, but they don't really appeal. And those nude ice skates Suzanne mentioned also look weird. My latest pair of shoes are the green of mushy peas and I love them very much (peas and shoes, both).

  12. Yes, a mystery why some posts get so many hits . Think I'll try and experiment on mine too!

  13. I used to long to be an ice skater, Rosemary (mad considering I broke my arm while roller skating) and I'm sure a lot of it was down to those lovely white boots!

I wonder sometimes Joanne if we wouldn't be better off leaving the dogs to do the blogging complete with photos of their gorgeous selves so we can get on with writing :-) I've never owned green shoes - I have a turquoise pair but not green!

  14. Oops sorry Jenny - you popped in when I wasn't looking :-) It'll be interesting to see if weird post titles bring in many hits won't it!

  15. I love magnolia too, Teresa. Let the kids paint their walls red if they want! And I have never heard of nude shoes!

  16. I'm not a fan of nude shoes either, but I do wish I could still wear high heels. Arthritis in my big toe means it's mostly flatties these days!

  17. I painted our dining room walls dark red once, Marian and didn't want to admit I'd made a mistake so we had to live with it... they're cream now (thank goodness)

You have my sympathy, Karen. I love beautiful shoes with high heels but it's rotten when all you can do is gaze longingly at them in the shops on your way to the flatties :-(

  18. I've never really been a 'Shoe' person Teresa - being fairly tall I never liked wearing high heels and I have to confess, my favourite thing is to have - quite literally - NUDE FEET. I prefer no shoes at all, I never wear them at home, and in summer I'd go out barefoot too if I could (I usually take them off to dance at parties too). White stilettos - yuck! (Even as a fellow Essex Girl!).

  19. Hadn't heard of 'nude shoes' where have I been? They sound um horrible. I too am an Essex girl - but don't get me started on the image we seem to have picked up in a certain TV series LOL!

Off to check my blog stats now...

  20. I'm with you there, Olivia - about the nude feet (much healthier too as long as you don't stand on anything sharp)! My white stilettos had peep toes which probably made them even more tacky, but I did love them!

Ugh that TV series Deborah! I feel decidedly picked on!

  21. I can remember wearing white shoes with black and grey striped tight back in '60-something. Talk about a fashion disaster. My fave shoes from way back were a pair of purple platform peeptoes. I adored them. Wish I still had them.

I think Tilly is writing a post and sending it into your mind by telepathy!

  22. I think you're right about Tilly, hydra!

Tights used to be something special - I remember when they were pastel colours with little patterns up the sides, or gunmetal grey - and then there were the ones that came complete with a pair of knickers and when the tights laddered you just cut the legs off!
