Sea Festival and more Jellyfish!

Popped down today to see the beginning of the Sea Festival but didn’t stay long. I’ve got a couple of really nasty mosquito bites and one of them has made my hand and wrist swell up like a boxing glove. My wrinkles have disappeared, but so have my knuckles!

The other big one is on my neck right next to a big scar which is sensitive at the best of times. I always react badly to mozzie bites.

Although the day is overcast, it is still warm. The water must be very warm too – there were dozens of jellyfish in the weed by the sea wall. Some of them, I kid you not, were as big as dinner plates which I think is about as big as they get. Fortunately they are moon jellyfish – absolutely harmless – and rather beautiful to watch when they are swimming through the water on their sides.

I wrote about jellyfish in a recent post here.

I love the atmosphere at the Sea Festival, the boats, the history, the wonderful Mayflower Pipes and Drums, and the brilliant Golden Rivets with their sea shanties. Oh and this year there was a regal visitor! Not sure if you'll notice him as he was a rather shy, retiring type!

Hang on a minute.... Oh well, it wouldn't be much of a post without Dusty poking his nose in!

  1. Looks like a fun time for all, despite the insect life.

Hope your hand settles down soon, and your neck too.

Always good to see Dusty included. :) xxx

  2. Festival looks great, but it's a shame about the bites.

  3. A sea festival sounds a great idea. Hope your hand has returned to normal. I thought I heard that urine on the affected area is the cure!

  6. I hope your mozzie bites go down soon. I have always suffered from bites but seem to be reacting even worse to them these days and now they get infected. Yuk! More than once my eye has swelled up making me look like I've been in a fight!

  7. Me and my chap are still suffering weeks later from bites that turned into craters and still crust up from tiny black flies that you can hardly see until they bite you. Re the jelly fish - there seems to be an influx of those little purple ones that sting in UK seas at present, especially down South. The tentacles break off them and little bits float in the sea and it's like being 'got' by stinging nettles (or 'Stingers' as we in Brum used to call them). The last time this happened to me in the sea was at Tenby about a decade ago.

  8. Sounds horrible! Hope your bites are better soon. I was always taught to keep well away from jellyfish with colour, but I didn't know that about bits breaking off them. I've never been stung by a jellyfish (touch wood touch wood touch wood). We call stinging nettles "stingers" too :-) x

  9. Lovely photos, Teresa. Mosquito bites - the only thing worse is a horsefly bite

  10. Great photos and sounds a lovely day out, Teresa - funnily enough I'm talking about the sea too! What a terrible bite to make you swell like that - hope they calm down soon.

  14. Such beautiful pictures evoking the atmosphere, Teresa. And I love the one of Dusty at the end! Those moon jellyfish are amazing. They look such peaceful creatures and must be elegant to watch as they glide through the water.

But your poor hand - that must be very uncomfortable and I hope it settles down soon. xxx

    1. Thank you, Joanna - there would have been a nice little film of the pipers too if I hadn't pressed the wrong button on my camera - duh! My hand is getting better every day - I'm not looking quite so much like Wreck-it Ralph now :-) x
