Last year Chris Evans launched a writing competition for kids on BBC Radio 2. It attracted 30,000 entries. Isn’t that great?
It’s happening again this year and he’ll be announcing it on Monday. Details here. There will also be video clips from the judges with tips, so bookmark that page for the youngsters!
Stories have to be a maximum of 500 words and the top 50 will be invited along to the Hay Festival in June.

Wish things like this had been about when I was at school. It may have got me writing at a younger age.

Terese you have just taken me along another pleasant trip down memory lane. I was about 14 when I entered a writing competition run by Bill Collins (movie critic). It was called, 'The Challenge to Lassie Competition'. I still have the book I won with Bill Collins' kind comment and autograph. That was such a nice feeling! Thanks for the post x

I listened to this last year - driving between the school drop-off and work. I know it was aimed at children, but the interviews with writers and advice offered were all very interesting. Almost made me wish I was wee again so I could enter.
Although I'm alarmed to learn from your post it was a year ago. Where's the time gone?

thanks for the link. I was wondering if there would be another comp - when I was young there used to be a national Young Writers competition and it was very exciting- I wish they'd run another one, because it covered all kinds of writing and the winning entries were so interesting to read (at least, I thought so - they used to be published in a book).
