Hydrotherapy at Greensmere has worked
wonders for Dusty. It’s amazing to see his back legs kicking equally strongly
under the water – and know that he isn’t putting any weight on his joints.
The first time we went after
the TPLO surgery, Ian spent a lot of time getting to know him and letting him
get to know his surroundings. He was a little nervous about going into the pool
the first time, but once he knew what to expect there was no stopping him.
Now he's having hydrotherapy to help his recovery from patella luxation surgery. He plays with toys in the
pool and at all times Ian is in the water with him, holding on to the special
harness he has to wear. His sessions are carefully timed and afterwards he has
a shower so we leave with his lovely soft fur smelling pretty.
He gets so excited once we turn onto the country road and he realises where we're going! It's such a big treat for him.
Tim 'n' Ted think Dusty is a very brave lad and they are so pleased he's enjoying his swimming xxx
ReplyDeletelicks and tail wags
Thank you Tim 'n' Ted and Pat :-) Dusty sends licks and tail wags to you too :-) xx
DeleteHydrotherapy works wonders for humans and animals alike. I'm so pleased Dusty is enjoying the healing process.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Nicola - It's amazing therapy isn't it :-) xx
DeleteI'm so glad hydrotherapy is working for Dusty. I've never tried it but I know that swimming hurts my lower back. I think this is because I only do breast stroke as I hate putting my head under the water. So for me its walking that suits me best. I did an hour long walk this morning so didn't feel too guilty watching Andy Murray win his match!
ReplyDeleteProbably best avoided then, Maggie. I'm very careful swimming since I injured my shoulder! I think you should do whatever suits you and it sounds as if walking does - and excellent news about Andy Murray :-) xx
DeleteWow that's amazing hydrotherapy for dogs, though I knew that there are pools for horses it is just that I never thought about dogs. Our Toby absolutely detests water he won't even walk through a puddle :)
ReplyDeleteI can't keep Dusty out of water - any water will do, puddles, sea, dykes. The smellier the better. I have that to look forward to once he's allowed off the lead again :-) xx
DeleteWho is Andy Murray ?
ReplyDeleteNumber 2 tennis player in the world - Scottish?
DeleteHi human, Teresa and of course, Dusty the paddling pup,
ReplyDeleteReally nice to see how well Dusty has adjusted to hydrotherapy. I think my human needs some hydrotherapy. I shall splatter him with water as a bit of therapy. Arf!
Pawsitive wishes and doggy kisses,
Penny :) xx
Dusty the paddling pup - love it! He shares your thoughts, Penny and makes sure I am well splattered when he's in the pool!
DeleteLots of hugs for you and Dusty says Woof! :-) xx
Can well imagine he loves this - and that it's doing him good.
ReplyDeleteI'm hoping to get him swimming in the sea once he's fully recovered, but I may have to go in with him - it's a tough job but someone has to do it ;-) xx
DeleteAwww, how sweet! I love that they have this to help bring dogs back to health.
ReplyDeleteGreat isn't it :-) xx
DeleteThat's fantastic, Teresa. I'm a huge fan of water and love the way it can help so many different conditions. I was very much a water baby when younger and appreciate the psychological effects it can have too - probably goes as much for dogs as for humans.
ReplyDeleteI think you're right about the psychological benefits, Rosemary. It definitely has that benefit with Dusty too and I know my weekly swim always cheers me up :-) xx
DeleteGlad to hear that Dusty is doing better.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Colette :-) xx
DeleteI do Aquarobics a couple of times a week and if Dusty enjoys it half as much as I do .....!! Wonderful the way water cushions you but you can still have a terrific workout. Great to know he's loving it and the benefit it's giving him, and that he's doing so well :-) xx
ReplyDeleteThank you, Sue - I know how much good it does you, if he enjoys it half as much I'll be happy :-) xx
DeleteAww that's lovely to see him enjoying his swim. I'm so glad that he's doing so well. :)xx
ReplyDeleteThanks, Deb :-) xx
DeleteWhat a great idea and lucky Dusty for being so well looked after.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Wendy - we're lucky that his insurance covers it! :-) xx
DeleteThis is so good to see, Teresa, and it's wonderful to know he can have not only such a helpful, healing treatment, but also that they look after him with such care and thoughtfulness. How lovely that he recognises the road and knows where he's going! Bless him. It's brilliant that he's enjoying it so much. xxx
ReplyDeleteThank you, Joanna. They look after dogs of all shapes and sizes there and have a hoist for the big ones. I think it does his spirits as much good as his joints and muscles :-) xx
