September Giggle Blog

September - boo! Back to school - double boo.

Okay, now I've got that out of the way, here are my giggles for this month.

In recent weeks, a few hand grenades have washed up on the beach here. Live ones of course. Probably from a WWII wreck breaking up in the harbour.

The latest one was picked up by a woman, thinking it was a stone which she was going to throw for her dog. She realised what it was pretty quickly and put it carefully back in the sand and called for help.

We were discussing this as we walked along the beach, telling the kids they should be careful about what they picked up.

On the way home, my eldest grandson (who had obviously been thinking about it) sighed and said…

You can’t go to the beach these days without having grenades flung in your face.

And here’s another. I recently got a new phone which I love, mainly because I understand it and it understands me and we get along just fine.

Until I decided to delete the photos stored on there. I used to do this with my old phone as memory was a bit of a problem for it. Every so often I’d just clear everything out.

So I sat one evening and deleted as I watched telly. Delete, delete, delete.

“Why on earth are photos from my blog on here?” I said as I pressed delete for the hundredth time. “And more than one copy at that. Ridiculous.” Delete, delete, delete. “Even the covers of my books are on here!” Delete, delete, delete.

It was when I noticed that I still had over a thousand photos on the phone that I decided to give it a rest. How on earth I had so many photos when my old phone only had 50 at most at any one time, was a mystery.

Then one night I was happily watching Holby City when my husband, who keeps his back to the telly when I watch anything that might contain blood, said, “All your blog photos have gone.”

Well they certainly had on his computer. Even the pictures of my books down the side. I checked on my phone. Gone from there too.

You know that feeling you get when you realise you’ve done something stupid? When if you don’t laugh you’ll cry? Well that, only I wasn’t quite up to laughing.

My heart sank. It would take days to find all the photos on my computer and put them back on the blog. And how would I know which ones I needed to fill the gaps?

I seriously considered just deleting my blog and having done with it. I felt so disheartened.

What I didn’t know (until I looked it up) was that Google+ saves all my photos from everywhere online and that’s where I’d deleted them from. Lucky for me, there is an undelete button, so it only took me a few minutes to undo the damage I’d done.

Then I laughed. Then I did. Relief!

Poppy says, Arf arf, too late Dusty – I got here first! Girls rule!

  1. Phew, thank goodness you didn't delete your lovely blog Teresa. And funny how we can laugh after, but not at the time. Off to do my giggles now, even though they're a bit thin on the ground at the moment....

  2. Don't you wish life had an undelete button sometimes.

  3. Oh my goodness - that must have been such a shock for you! If you had deleted your blog we would have all been bereft, Teresa. No more pics of your furry family.

    1. I would have missed all my lovely blogland friends, Wendy that's for sure. I'm a whisker away from deleting my FB account as well, but have decided just to stay away from it for now :-) x

    2. I think Facebook sucks as well Teresa. Things are a bit silly on there aren't they? Some people use it to be nosey I think. Our daughter has had to delete hers.

    3. It does get very silly at times doesn't it, Susan x

    5. Me too, Wendy - I think I would have been heartbroken if I had deleted it all in a hissy fit x

  4. Oh my goodness Life Without A Likely Story - that would be a drama in itself. Unthinkable! Thank goodness you didn't delete it and you managed to undelete the photos you'd deleted. Phew! Talking about deleting - I'm still deleting the extra photos I get when I download from my Smartphone (gosh me with a Smartphone - never thought I'd see the day. Neither did my grandson actually - 'seems so funny seeing you with a smartphone Granny Sue!!' You get the picture - oops pardon the pun) I digress - I just wish SOMEBODY SOMEWHERE could tell me WHY it's happening. :-( xx

    1. I wonder if it's a similar sort of thing, Sue. As you know I don't download my photos, but email the ones I want to keep to myself so I only get one copy. My phone however shows several copies as it backs them up for Google+ (as I now know - red face).
Have you had one of your grandsons look at it? The kids know more about these things than we do :-) x

    2. Hello Sue and Teresa, sorry to but in, but,,,,, I think it's hilarious how they're called a smart phone. I've even got one now Sue as well. Touch screen and everything, and I think to myself, well, you wouldn't have a thick phone would you??

  5. Life wouldn't be the same without your blog, Teresa, so I'm very relieved you could retrieve everything. What an awful shock it must have been! I know that dreaded feeling when you discover something's gone horribly wrong - I once managed to accidentally sort every word of an entire novel (long since consigned to the world of fluff under my wardrobe) that I'd just finished writing into alphabetical order. I knew nothing about computers at the time and had to pace the house for hours, wringing my hands and gnashing my teeth, until my husband came home and rescued it in one click! xx

    1. Thank you, Joanna :-) But oh my goodness, I went cold when I read what happened to you. You must have felt so sick. Thank goodness for your husband coming to the rescue. I hope you'll get that novel out again for another look one day :-) x

    2. Isn't it just awful when you do something like delete by mistake? You have that awful sinking feeling and then a horrible chasm opens up in your guts when you fully take in what you've done. Then the adrenalin charged scramble to try to rescue things!! I feel for you - but glad it ended okay!

    3. Thank you, Pat. I think it's something we all relate to - particularly since technology has been helping us!! x

  6. Typewriters didn't do delete. Phones with round dials didn't delete either. OK I'm a technophobe but don't you look back sometimes and wish... Like today when there's been no internet and limited tv from TalkTalk until half an hour ago. As for Facebook, I read a report about how much depression it causes. I check in every so often to see if I have any messages but I don't read posts.

    1. That doesn't surprise me, Lynne - about it causing depression. I do hanker after the good old days before the internet - I don't miss dial phones though, I was always breaking my nails in those :-) x

  11. Just popped back to ask if you’re aware of any problem with your list of blog links, Teresa? Maybe it’s just me, but I couldn’t get any of them to open.

    1. Thanks, Rena. I had a look and my blog list had disappeared completely. I've had a bit of a twiddle and I think it's all working again now. I hope so! :-) x

  12. Priceless comment about the grenades, Teresa. I love what comes out of the mouth of my grandson - sometimes he says such clever things that I can't believe he's only 6. Is it me, or are they soooo much more grown up theses days? Caroline x

  13. Hi Teresa
Don't kids just say the funniest things? So glad you didn't delete your blog, although I can imagine your distress. These days its so difficult to know how things are stored and whether deleting from one thing will delete it everywhere. A colleague of mine had been using her pc for work but when she deleted the dropbox from her computer she deleted everything the company had ever done. We were both in a bit of panic until we released too that you can undelete from dropbox. You are definitely not alone!
