Roses, Caulis and Rain

I’ve just finished making my outfit for Halloween – now all I need is an invite out somewhere. Hello… anyone..?

This is the fabric I used. I made a tunic from a pattern I got free with Prima.

And this is what I shall be eating for my dinner tonight. I saw it when we stopped off at Rookery Farm for some veg and I couldn’t resist.

The purple colour is caused by an antioxidant, anthocyanin, which is also present in red wine.

Just waiting for it to stop raining so I can take Mr Bones out. Here he is next to my chair – raring to go as you can see, bless him.

  1. I try and avoid fancy dress at all costs! A friend and I last night were remembering a fancy dress party she held where someone came in a canoe and someone else in a badger head! What the theme was, we couldn't remember.

    1. There's a bit of a story as to why we dress up at Halloween, maybe I should blog about it next time! The person dressed up as a canoe!!!! Mind boggles! x

  2. I don't do fancy dress either so well done for being prepared. There's sure to be a party somewhere.

I've heard of purple sprouting, but not purple cauliflower. Do you think it might turn a cheese sauce blue?

    1. It'll just be for the benefit of the Little People, Maggie :-)
I hadn't heard of purple cauliflower either - I did wonder about putting it in a cheese sauce, but will probably eat it naked - the cauli I mean, not me ;-) x

  4. There is something vaguely sinister about blue food. Years ago, my mother found a source of blue eggs ( chickens'). We kids refused to eat them!

Hope you get invited somewhere so you can wear your new outfit!

  7. Hi Teresa and hi Mr. Bones,

Yes, it's me, Penny the Jack Russell dog and modest internet star, recently upgraded to superstar status! :)

My human, Gary, was telling about a part dog, part vegetable creature he once met. Yes, it was a 'Collieflower'! Arf! Arf! Ah yes, soon be Halloween. Trick or treat?

Pawsitive wishes and doggy kisses, Penny xx

    2. Ha, ha and arf! arf! I was a just 'Parson' through and noticed your reply!

Gary has met another famous celebrity dog, but not a Parsnip Jack Russell :) Yes, it was, Jerry Springer Spaniel....x

  8. I'd be interested to know if that cauliflower stays blue during the cooking process as the broccoli does not...if you steam it. ;-)

    1. It faded a lot, the water was bright purple. It didn't smell like cauliflower when it was cooking and it didn't taste like cauliflower. The only similarity was in the texture. And a 3 year old declared it delicious - which I suppose proves it didn't taste like a proper cauli :-) x

  9. Red wine or cauliflower - I know which one I would rather have! I had to laugh on the blue eggs. I buy Cotswold Legbar eggs from Waitrose/Morrisons and they are blue - BUT they are the BEST eggs ever - the yold is the darkest I've ever seen. Caroline x p.s Mr Bones ain't silly is he? Keep warm Indy!

  11. I love the colour of that cauli - please let us know if it tastes any different from the regular kind. (I don't normally like it, but I'd be tempted to try that one)

    1. You may well like it, Patsy - it's your colour and it tastes nothing like a cauliflower! In fact it didn't taste much of anything! x

  12. Oooh that cauli is pretty! What a shame it didn't live up to expectations. Bit like dressing up!! I've hated it ever since I was sent to a school kindergarten party as a Christmas cracker!! Scars go deep!! :0) xx
