Happy Christmas to Me - and Maybe to You!

I’ve finally succumbed. As I'm always borrowing his Kindle, my beloved has got me one of my own for Christmas. Well he had to give it to me early - to make sure it worked okay!

I was amazed how many books I have collected on there already via Kindle on my PC. Maybe now I'll be able to read some properly!

And while I was browsing the net looking for stuff for Indy, I found his enzyme powder £36 cheaper, syringes £2 cheaper and his dental chews are £1 less for a box. I won’t buy his insulin online though as it has to be handled with care and I’d rather get it from the vet.

So what is this wondrous site? Animed. And guess what – they’re running a competition to win a Kindle Touch. You have to think up a caption for a picture and then hope enough people vote for yours, but even if you don’t win, there are lots of runner up prizes and all approved entries get 5% off their next order. Can't be bad. More details here!

I've entered

And you’ve probably already heard, but in case you haven’t, the lovely People’s Friend is now on Facebook.

  1. Thanks, Teresa. I've almost come round to the idea of getting myself a kindle, so I'll have a look at the competition.

    1. I was so set against them, Patsy, until I started using (borrowing) one. I still prefer the feel of a "real" book, but I am liking the Kindle more and more :-) x

  2. Thanks for the link, Teresa. I've always said I won't go down the Kindle road but for a free one I might just have a look.

You do realise that Indy will be expecting more doggy chews once he knows you are getting them cheaper?!

    1. I said the same thing, Gail. Ah, I hadn't thought of that about the chews - you may well be right! x

  3. Now you can download Patsys book for nothing, and mine VERY cheaply! Is yours a Kindle touch?
I've no idea what the difference is.

    1. I already have, Frances - I'd collected lots of books on Kindle on my PC, but it never feels quite right reading on the computer, so now I've transferred them all to the device. What a lot I've got to read. Mine isn't a touch - it's just an ordinary one (I think the Touch has a touch screen, not sure) :-) x

  4. I'm still Kindleless, but I do see the point as I've just bought the hardback copy of J K Rowling's new book, The Casual Vacancy, and it's quite a hefty read. I'm enjoying it so far in spite of the criticism. There are quite a few characters to get your head around, but she gives them some very apt names, just like she did in the Harry Potter books.

    1. Ooh I want to read The Casual Vacancy! The daft thing is, it's more expensive on Kindle than it is in hardback. I might wait for the paperback version x

    2. It was only £8.99 in Sainsburys which I thought was good value.

    3. What a bargain, Maggie! It is £11.99 on kindle. I sort of understand why they price them so high, particularly when a book first comes out, but for that money I'd want a physical book! £8.99 though - I am VERY tempted! x

  5. Hi Teresa,
I think I should enter that contest. Can always use a Kindle. Although, being a technophobe, I thought it had something to do with starting a fire :)
Yikes! I note you have mentioned that day I affectionately call 'Boxing Day Eve' :)
    Enjoy your Sunday.

    1. Oh I remember being let loose with an axe to chop kindling for the fire when I was a child - what fun that was :-) You should definitely go in for that comp x

  7. Don't have a Kindle yet but I'm sure its just a matter of time, once I get my head around there being no physical pages to turn. I am such a dinosaur.

  8. Welcome to kindle land, Teresa! Much as I still love print books, I love the ease with which we can download books to the kindle and carry them about (too easy to get too many books though!). Good luck with that comp. It's great to see PF on FB!

    1. Yes, much too easy, Rosemary - a list on the Kindle doesn't really bear any relation to a huge pile of books! x

  9. Welcome aboard, Teresa! There are lots of places where you can download 'public domain' books for free. If you don't already know them, Project Gutenberg and Many Books are well worth investigating.

  11. My Sony e-reader has given up, so I'm going to be investing in a Kindle, just so I can read all the books I've got on the Kindle for PC.
I've still got a pile of solid books to read though. :-)

I think it's great that PF have gone onto Facebook, and have their website.

  12. Enjoy your Kindle. I've been told I'm getting one for Christmas, too. Just as well, as my book is coming out as an e-book first. And no, I am not going to get rid of my books, nor will I stop going to the library!

  15. Hi Theresa. I think Christmas will be the time when I will 'fall'. It's getting to be a case of 'If you can't beat em join em'.
P.S. I noticed that you have a story out in Fiction Feast this month. Mine is in their too - my first one in print!
