One About Writing!

I feel a tad guilty looking back over my posts. I meant to make this blog about writing, but it rarely seems to go that way.

So here’s a writerly post to make up for it!

Writers’ Holidays! I’ve always fancied going on one and the one that appeals most is the Writers’ Holiday at Caerleon.

You can read about it on Lynne Hackles’ blog http://lynnehackles.blogspot.com/2009/08/simply-best.html and Simon Whaley’s blog http://simonwhaleytutor.blogspot.com/2009/08/after-caerleon.html

  1. I've always fancied going on one of those writers' holidays too, Teresa. Don't know if I would have the guts to go on my own though.

Sounds as though they have a lot of fun on those holidays!

  2. It would be scary going alone wouldn't it, but from what I gather everyone is so nice and friendly you wouldn't be on your own for long!

  3. I went for the first time this year, on my own, and had a wonderful time. I didn't feel lonely or nervous at all after the introductory free glass of wine, and the quiz on the first night was excellent for making friends. It really is worth it. I'm on an Arvon course at the moment, and I feel a lot more isolated here with 15 other writers than I did with 150 at Caerleon. Read my blog for a blow-by-blow account! Needless to say, I've booked for next year already. (http://battypip.wordpress.com)

  5. I had a great time on the two Arvon courses I went on. Though they weren't related closely to womag story writing - one was script-writing and one was crime - I learned such a lot, especially from the first one, about structure that it has really helped me when I write serials. The whole process suddenly seemed less daunting. Teresa, you should definitely go on at least one course before you die!

Battypip, am off to chase your Arvon blog!

  6. I've always fancied Caerleon, ever since it first emerged. Most of my writers' group colleagues swore by Swanwick, but Caerleon seems a little less formal.

  7. Caerleon is a joy and I was really sorry I couldn't go this year.
Teresa, I promise you, if you go next year you will have a great time. Everyone there, including myself, will be dying to meet you. They really are a very friendly bunch, Anne and Gerry a delight - oh, and the food's pretty good too.

  8. Before I die, Geri! There's a thought - would be great fun to wait till after then I could go and haunt everyone - in a nice way of course!!

I always fancied Swanwick too, Diane - mainly because I wanted to meet Deric Longden!

I'm afraid people would find me very boring, Paula! I'd heard about the food being very good - not that that's why I'd want to go of course . . .

  9. Hm! Now there's a story, Teresa - writer haunts residential writing course!

  10. Caerleon already has a resident ghost. I've had dealings with her and have just written a piece about her. You wouldn't want to mess with her as she tops six foot.
Caerleon is all about friends, fun and food and you actually don't realise how much you've learned along the way. That realisation comes later, once you're home and over the EBS (as Susan Haniford calls it) Empty Battery Syndrome. (Knackered)
