Hot Dogs!

Dusty has found a new way to cool off now he doesn’t swim so often. He runs to the tap and sprawls out underneath it, has a drink, then wriggles round on his stomach until the water is running over his back.

I don’t throw the ball for him to fetch very much as he throws himself into it so hard, I’m afraid he’ll re-injure himself, but we do sit and stay and once I’m a distance away I throw it for him to catch.

He’s invented a game for himself. He runs round me in a wide circle waiting for me to throw the ball for him to catch. So when he does it, I say, “Go round!” Now he goes round when I tell him to, so it looks as if he’s been trained to do it, but in reality he trained me.

I’ve heard of dog ice lollies, but it was seeing them being made on For the Love of Dogs with Paul O’Grady that inspired me to give them a go.

They were a big hit on this very hot day, but I think I put too much food in so perhaps more water next time.

In the car with my daughter and two of her children, I had just stopped when eldest granddaughter looked above my head and said, “There’s a spider…” My daughter said “No!” But too late, I was already out of the car and sprinting down the road.

No I wasn’t really, but I did leap out of the car while my brave daughter knocked it out – well she didn’t knock it out as in hitting it over the head, but she did give the web a poke so it fell out of the car. It tried to climb back in, but I fought it off.

Hope you are keeping cool in summer's last blast.

  1. He he, I can pictue you sprinting down the road, Teresa. I'm like that with wasps or bees. Love those dog ice lollies. I almost want one, but not quite. Glad Dusty has you trained well. I'm keeping inside in the cool, and off to have a lovely nutty danish pastry with some proper filter coffee. Enjoy the heatwave:))) xxx

    1. They did look curiously yummy, Suzy which I shouldn't say being a vegetarian :-) Am jealous of your Danish pastry and filter coffee :-) xx

  2. Hey Teresa,

Just dropping by quickly before I get going to Canada.

Dusty's new way of cooling off, after yesterday's scorcher, is just the way I'd like to cool off. I'd probably get some strange looks. Then again, that's about normal for me! :)

I shall see if I can find Penny a doggy ice lolly.

    Gary :) x

    1. It's very tempting, Gary, all that lovely cold water. A man walking past the other day said, "My turn next!"
Have a lovely time on your trip xx

  3. I'm so tempted to join Dusty under the tap. It's far too hot for me! How lovely to see him able to exercise again and clearly enjoying it so much. And although I'm a vegetarian too, I think the lollies look really appetising. xxx

    1. They are great for keeping them amused for a while. Dusty's always liked munching on an ice cube, but this is more fun!

  6. Great idea, dog lollies, Teresa.

Dusty is clearing firing on all cylinders. Clearly a smart dog to train you and to work out how to make the best of the water tap. :-)

  7. Mmm, doggy lollies. I'll tell my family too. I think it's the thought of being trapped with a spider that is the problem. We have just spent a few days in Torquay and this morning after we opened the window, we spotted a wasp in the room. Now it probably flew in this morning, but I don't even want to think about it being there all night!

    1. Yes, being trapped with them is horrible. And the wasp - probably best to assume it flew in when you opened the window!

  8. Dog ice lollies? Not heard of those though Floss likes to wait for the stick if we are eating lollies and is not averse to an ice cube. Love the improvised shower but loved the image of you sprinting down the road even more ha ha! So many spiders on the rampage this month but we must be brave...one appeared on my bedspread yesterday morning (after I had shaken it and put it on the bed) um shook the bedspread not the spider, though that must have had a shake too I suppose...I felt slightly sorry for the thing but flushed him away (took 3 flushes) and hoped he'd swim off somewhere. Wasps and spiders...goodness me :-)

    1. And set to get worse now the weather has broken and they all come in from outside to escape the rain! They appear in the most unexpected places. I'm glad not to have to deal with a wasp invasion though - hope yours are gone soon :-)

  10. Very inventive, Teresa. You could market 'dog lollies' and make a fortune :) Hope you are having a super September. Take good care and I hope the spiders stay well away.
