Writers for Animals

This week the anthology Writers for Animals which contains a mixture of fiction and true life stories is published by Bridge House Publishing.

All profits will go to three animal charities.

Right now you can buy it on Kindle – here - but it will be out in paperback later this week.

Anyone who knows me will know how much it means to me to have one of my stories included in this book.

And it feels even more special because it is a year today since we lost Tilly. Not a day goes by that I don’t think of her and miss her. I was going to post a photo, but, you know – tried looking through photos and found it too hard, even now.

So on this chilly foggy day, here’s one from earlier this week that I took with my phone. Not great quality, but the day really was that stunningly blue.

  1. Well done! what a thrill. I will check out the book. I am so sorry that it is still painful to write about Tilly.

  2. I have been devastated by the loss of each and every one of my cats over the years. Bonnie, my step-dog is still only eight but I dread her getting old - I think it will be worse. Great about the book. Where was the photo taken, Teresa?

    1. It's so hard isn't it, Wendy. When my last cat died I said we'd never have another, but recently I've been tempted. I hope Bonnie is with you for a long time yet. One of my dogs lived to be 17 which was lovely.
The photo was taken from Dovercourt and the cranes you can see in the distance are at Felixstowe x

  3. I know what you mean about looking at photographs, Teresa. I am still the same over my missing dog, Danny, and he went missing a few years ago. A picture stirs up so many emotions we thought were buried. Looking forward to reading the book. :)

    1. That must be awful, Lynette. I lost two cats like that and never found out what happened to them. You never stop wondering do you x

  4. I'll look out for the paperback Teresa. Lovely blue skies in your picture. Lucky you living by the sea.

  5. I, too, know what you mean about looking at photographs, Teresa. Time does dull the sharpest pain, and by time I mean years, but tears can and still do strike when you least expect them even then. Each of our pets is an individual and 'getting another dog/cat/whatever' does not make us stop missing those who've gone.

Well done on getting a story in this book. I will wait for the paperback to come out. I'm going to have to buy it because one of the animal charities is local to me. In fact, you've done me a huge favour by drawing my attention to this book because I'd been trying to remember the name of the sanctuary I gave a huge amount of free-standing hutches and bedding to some years ago when we had a purpose-built shed kitted out with inbuilt hutches for all the rabbits and guinea pigs. I knew it wasn't The Blue Cross or the RSPCA. Now all the thumpers and squeakers have gone to rest in the little orchard with a statue of St. Francis watching over them, I have lots of bowls, bottles etc., to give to Hillfields. Thank you for reminding me of their name! x

    1. That's lovely, Jacula - that you have a connection to Hillfields. I didn't realise it was near you. I love that your thumpers and squeakers are watched over by St Francis x

  6. It is wonderful for you, Teresa, to have a story in this particular book. I'm so pleased for you.

This must be a painful time for you and this book, with its animal connection, will always have a special significance.

You must miss Tilly so much, but she will be in your heart always. I'm sure she knew how loved she was and you couldn't have given her anything more important than that. x

  8. Aww hugs Teresa! And licks from Tim 'n' Ted. Time is supposed to heal but I don't think it gets that much easier really.

I'll buy some paperbacks as soon as it's out. One for me and some for prezzies.

    1. Thanks Pat - and Tim 'n' Ted. Perhaps it's because time goes so much faster now that healing takes so much longer. I just find it frightening how swiftly the days rush by xx
