Two Lovely Awards!

I haven’t been around much on the internet, just dipping my toe in here and there. I’d like to say I’ve been busy writing, but it wouldn’t be true. I just feel a bit withdrawn at the moment.

But in good old Blue Peter tradition, here’s one I sort of prepared earlier. I used an old washing up bottle, some oddments of wool and lots of sticky-backed plastic (I didn't really - I just used some words, some pictures and some links).

Thank you Rosemary and Patsy (where there is news of a free Kindle book) for the Top Commenter Award.

And thank you Liz for the One Lovely Blog award.

I’m afraid I’m going to be very lazy again and pass these awards to everyone who comments here, but whether you accept or not, I hope you’ll visit the lovely ladies mentioned above.

As part of the requirement for the One Lovely Blog Award I have to tell you 7 random things about myself, but I’ve run out of things to say about me, so I’ll do it about Indy.

1.  He had his second (at home) glucose curve on the Sunday before last which means hourly blood tests from the time we get up, until we go to bed. The results were pretty good and his insulin dose is staying the same. I’ve changed him over to Burns High Oats (you can enter a competition to win a year’s supply of Burns food here) which is better for diabetic* dogs and we’ll do another glucose curve in four weeks to see if that has given us further improvement, plus he’ll have another Fructosamine blood test.

2.  At one point one of his white paws was red with blood. No, not his, mine! I fumbled with the lancet device and not only managed to knock the protective cap off, I also hit the button to activate it, stabbed my finger and sliced at the same time. Lots of blood. I had to get a plaster before I could continue. Yes, Indy laughed. But on the plus side, it didn’t hurt, which made me feel better about doing it to him.

3.  He has lots of lumps and bumps as – ahem – older pooches do, but there was one on the side of his face that was worrying me. Tom said he was sure it was nothing to worry about and did a needle test. Just a cyst. Phew.

4.  There is little he is afraid of. Being cold, being hungry and Chihuahuas are three things that scare him.

5.  He was having a cuddle with Lachlan the other day and Lachlan said he was worried about cuddling him because “he is delicate”. Indy has been called a lot of things, but I think delicate is a new one.

6.  He dislikes baths, brushes and scissors.

7.  When I sit in the back of the car with him, he has to stand on my lap. It doesn’t matter where I sit; he has to stand on me.

*Indy has asked me to point out that he is not overweight and has only just put the weight back on that he lost! Very sensitive about his weight he is!

As I said, please do take an award if you comment here – if you want to of course. I won’t twist your arm.

Go on go on go on go on....

  1. It is fine to be afraid of Chihuahuas, Indy. There are two giant poodles over the road who are scared witless of Holly, our ginger kitten.

Congratulations on the award, Teresa. You richly deserve it.

I can't type much at the moment as my fingers are freezing. Our old cottage lets in every breath of cold from out there. I'm going to try playing the piano to see if that warms them up. x

    1. Ginger kittens can be very scary, Joanna :-) Our first ginger cat, Leo, used to chase dogs off our garden - and it didn't matter how big they were, they used to run! Hope your piano playing warmed your fingers up. Have you ever tried typing in fingerless gloves? x

  3. Perhaps you have that SAD thing, Teresa, and need some sun...? I know I do (need sun) and probably Indy would like some too! Hope you feel brighter soon x

    1. Yes I definitely miss the sun, Frances - what little we saw of it. I have a problem with November. It was the month my dad died and also this time last year we were going through all that with Tilly and I can't seem to stop thinking about her, especially with all the trips we've had to the vet lately - just feeling sorry for myself I suppose. I shall snap out of it eventually :-) x

  4. I can identify with you, I'm feeling a bit jaded myself. Perhaps we need a rest from all the things life throw at us every day?

A good cure that works for me is going out for tea and cake! I can highly recommend it...

I sympathise with Indy, and number 3, I've got a fair few lumps and bumps that have just appeared over the last five years. However, I totally disagree with number 6, I love baths, and brushes and scissors means a trip to the hairdressers, and that always picks me up!

Now there's an idea. Keep well and happy. :-)x

    1. Going out for tea and cake sounds good, Maria - I think I shall try it, particularly the cake :-)

I don't know why he dislikes baths and brushes so much. He doesn't put up a fight, but he always looks so miserable as if he's being tortured - yet he gets all excited when it's time for his injection - daft dog (don't tell him I said that!)

And you've reminded me, my hairdresser is getting a puppy and she may well have it next time I go - something to look forward to :-) x

  5. It's been a doggie blogging day for us both, hasn't it! Indie is lovely (he and Bonnie share the same silky ears). I would like to say that Bonnie would like her but, as you know, she probably wouldn't!

I laughed about him not liking baths. When the grandchildren were staying this weekend and I called out 'bath's ready' to the four year old, Bonnie ran upstairs and into the bathroom instead (even though she's not allowed up there) - she loves water!

  6. Oh bless her, Bonnie sounds lovely - I bet she'd have liked to jump in the bath too! Indy is the first spaniel I've ever had who isn't keen on water and doesn't like getting dirty. He'll only swim in the sea if I go in with him and he'll swim in the dykes, but only if he's very hot! x

  7. Hugs Teresa. So sorry you're going through such a difficult time, but perhaps knowing why it's happening is half the battle in getting through it. November can be a bleak month at the best of times. Roll on December, you're being missed in Blogland.

  8. Hope you're feeling brighter soon Teresa. You are so good at cheering everyone else up. I was about to give up sending things off as I wasn't having any success. But today I received a book by Linda Lewis, The Writer's Treasury of Ideas as I have been shortlisted for a 250 word comp I entered in August. Never give up they say. Wanted to share that with you as you have been so encouraging. Thank you.

  10. Hi Teresa,

It seems you are going through some reflective moments and most importantly, Teresa, is that you take it easy and post when you feel right about it.

Hearty congrats on receiving those awards and always interesting to see what's happening in the world of Indy. Penny and me, her mere human, wish you all well and keep smiling :)
Gary and yes indeed, Penny x
