Absolutely nothing to do with writing

I wanted to share this site with you.

Who doesn’t watch a plane going overhead and wonder where it’s come from or where it’s going to?

Well my son showed me Plane finder this morning and I spent far too long on there. Hover your mouse over the red plane of your choice and it gives you the flight number, click on it and a little box comes up full of info.

You can see where the flight is from, where it’s going to, what kind of plane it is, which airline, speed, altitude – oh it’s just too blinking exciting for me.

And if, like me, you live on a flight path, you can look out of your window, see a plane and seconds later know all you want to know about it.

Zoom in anywhere in the world and you can check on flights. How handy is that when you’re meeting someone at an airport?

Got to go, there’s a KLM Royal Dutch Airlines plane due over any minute on its way from Cardiff to Schiphol, it’s at 33,000 feet and travelling at 531 mph.

Darn these clouds!

  1. Sounds like fun but procrastination in disguise for me! But then again, we all need a bit of fun sometimes. Life is far too serious, don't you think?

  2. Nothing like a bit of a waste of time! Look at all those planes over London! When someone I know is traveling I'll check 'em out. Thanks for the fun.

  3. You're right, Pat - it has everything to do with procrastination and now I've found two more sites that do a similar thing with ships, there's no hope for me x

It's amazing isn't it, Susan. I wouldn't want to be an air traffic controller. It must be incredibly stressful! x

  4. There's a similar site for ships (Gary uses it A LOT) I'm not going to tell you what it's called though in case it provides yet another distraction from writing.

  8. I love the thought of finding out where the planes are going. We get lots heading over head and I have wondered where it was from and heading to. Thanks for sharing Plane finder with us, Teresa. I shall go and check out who's going where overhead...

  9. I clicked on the site and google chrome threw up boxes full of warnings about scripts and things so I didn't pursue it!! Oh dear!! Just as well as it sounds highly addictive and I do have a most addictive personality! LOL! Take care

  10. Hope you enjoy it, Kate. I always thought planes going over us were on their way to Scandinavia, but they're going all over the place! I get far too excited over this - I really need to get out more :-) x

Best to take note of warnings, Old Kitty. A shame you can't see the site, but probably for the best :-) x

  12. We are not far from Birmingham Airport, and I often look up, wondering where the plane in the sky is going. Now I could find out - but, oh dear, do I need another distraction? I don't think I trust myself! x

  13. Hi Teresa,
I just checked that site out. Coincidentally, the map on there was of Canada. I was on a plane to Vancouver. Although, rather weirdly, the plane was at -125 feet. Maybe I read it wrong or the plane was in an underground um 'plane park' :)
With that, I shall leave your site, destination, 'Leek International Airport'!
    Gary x

  14. I grew up on a farm as a child, and here in the middle of the U.S. (Nebraska), we have wide open spaces and can see the sky quite well. We always had jets flying over us (we are "flyover" country, after all!), leaving a stream of white behind them. I think I would have loved a site like Plane Finder back then!

  15. It's fun at first, Joanne, but I am bored with it now - thank goodness :-) x

That's just weird, Gary! Now you've set me off thinking all sorts :-) x

Sounds like a great place to live, Melissa. Ever since I was a child I've wondered where the planes overhead were going to and coming from - and now I have been enlightened - far flung places I'd never even dreamed of, not just the Northern European places I'd imagined :-) x
