Well the good news is that the bloods, scan and biopsy didn’t show up any cancer or infection. The bad news is – without a diagnosis where do we go from here?
Tilly can’t survive on a couple of dog biscuits a day. She had a bad night last night, but mid-morning she decided she wanted to go for a walk. Now! Hurry up! So off we went. Not far and she wore a woolly jumper as it was very cold, but she was very perky and waggy. She ate half a Markie and a Shape while we were out.
I made her some porridge, but she said no thanks.
There is only one thing left to try. Tomorrow she is going to have a steroid injection which may stimulate her appetite and if we can get decent food into her, well who knows. It is a controversial treatment in liver disorders for obvious reasons, but in some cases it can work wonders. Jo thinks as there is no sign of infection it’s worth a try and we should know in five days or less if it has worked.
Thank you for all your kind thoughts and wishes and messages of support. I can’t begin to tell you how much it means.
Have you tried scrambled egg with a very teensy bit of marmite or bovril?
ReplyDeleteI have tried scrambled egg, but not with marmite or bovril. I'll give that a try, Pat, thank you x
ReplyDeleteOh, dear, I hope you can get a diagnosis soon. When my cat had very similar symptoms it was an internal blockage. I suppose they've looked really carefully at her gut?
ReplyDeleteThanks Jenny. There's no blockage as far as can be told - things are normal at t'other end and there is no tenderness in her gut. I will mention it to the vet tomorrow just in case though, thank you x
ReplyDeleteHope the injection will help her feel like eating again. Frustrating though, when the root cause of it all remains a bit of a mystery.
ReplyDeleteIt must be really frustrating not to know what's wrong. I hope you can get her eating properly soon.
ReplyDeleteDoes she like raw eggs? Some dogs love them (mine used to) and as consuming them is more like drinking than eating she might be tempted.
Really good to know the good news, but fingers crossed for no more bad news and a rapid return to health.
ReplyDeleteWhat a terrible time for you and Tilly. My thoughts are with you. xx
ReplyDeleteStill keeping everything crossed! What about chicken - if she's allowed it of course - and milk - always a staple in diets. Caroline x
ReplyDeleteWill be thinking of you and Tilly tomorrow and keeping everything crossed for good news.
ReplyDeleteXX
Boiled chicken breast is very easy for them to eat. I hope you get some answers soon xx
ReplyDeleteThat's great about the good news. Hoping, wishing and praying this all gets sorted out soon. Hugs Teresa xox
ReplyDeleteThank you, we hope so too, Joanne. I feel if we can just get her to eat something she can start to fight this whatever it is x
ReplyDeleteTried raw eggs this morning, Patsy - thanks for the suggestion. It was a no go though x
Thank you Frances x
Thanks hydra x
Thanks Caroline, she was eating chicken at first then wouldn't touch it. No to milk as well x
THank you, Suz x
Thanks Kath - I even tried keeping chicken breast in with hot dog sausages to see if some of the flavour rubbed off and would tempt her. She turns her nose up x
Thank you, Diane x
I hope things improve very soon. It's so hard to manage when there is no clear diagnosis. But you are giving her wonderful care and trying all possible ways to stimulate her appetite. She is in such good hands and couldn't be more loved and cared for than she is.
ReplyDeleteTeresa, Can you get Nature Diet in your area? It's gluten and wheat free, all pure and they do one called Sensitive. It smells really nice and T&T love it; I think they get upset tums on purpose so I'll give it them.
ReplyDeleteSending 'eat up' vibes to Tilly and hugs all round
xxPat
Thank you, Joanna, that is so nice of you. She's had the injection and now we wait and see.
ReplyDeleteThanks Pat, Nature Diet sounds very much like the Burns food I get. Holistic, all natural, no wheat, gluten or additives.
She's had about a third of a sausage so far today! Not healthy food, but Jo says getting her to eat anything at all would be good.
Aww, bless her!
ReplyDeleteI hope it was a big sausage!
xx
I would have liked it to be bigger, Pat, but I rejoice at everything she takes in at the moment :) xx
ReplyDeleteSo pleased to hear that the tests didn't show anything, and I hope the injection helps.
ReplyDeleteThanks Carol - Tilly had a little more food last night and porridge this morning x
ReplyDeleteI wish I could suggest something to help Tilly start eating again. I do hope the injection works.
ReplyDeleteStill wishing you and Tilly all the best.
ReplyDeleteStill sending positive vibes to Tilly (and you, Teresa) and hoping things are improving by now. Good to know they didn't find anything serious, though It certainly makes diagnosis more difficult.
ReplyDeleteDear Teresa and Tilly,
ReplyDeleteTo echo all the other comments, Penny and I so wish that Tilly's situation improves. Let's hope the steroid injection is a most positive catalyst.
We are thinking about you. The love we share with our precious creatures is priceless.
May you have a peaceful weekend.
In kindness, Gary and Penny
Thank you, Eileen - she does at least show an interest in food now which is good x
ReplyDeleteThanks Keith x
Thanks Rosemary x
Thank you Gary and Penny for your kind thoughts - Tilly says she's bearing up, but taking every day as it comes which is all we can do x
She ate some "proper" food last night and she's been taking her pills really well, but she's far from recovered. At the moment she seems quite content to sleep most of the time.
Thank you again for all the kind wishes and positive thoughts for Tilly, it really is appreciated xx
I hope that it works, or that you find something else that can be treated soon.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Rachel x
ReplyDeleteNever easy when our pets are ill - if only they could talk! Good that the results came back negative but so hard when you don't know the cause.
ReplyDeleteMy own two dogs are on tablets for kennel cough at the moment, oh but they no longer call it that. Well, they have had whatever it is now called!
I hope Tilly continues to improve and keep fingers crossed that the steroid injection works.
Thanks Deborah - back to the vet tomorrow for a check and maybe more steroids. At least she's stopped losing weight now and she's started eating chicken again which is good!
ReplyDeleteDeborah - I'm sorry, I meant to say I hope your two are better soon. My friend's dog had kennel cough as a pup and it's horrible isn't it x
ReplyDeleteHope Tilly is eating more now. Good luck for today's vet visit.
