Puppy Love

Dusty is well and truly besotted with Scout. They never stop playing and we have to separate them at times just so they can both get some rest.

Dusty had his 6 monthly check up at the vet’s and he’s put on two kilos and now weighs 16.5 kilos which is a far more respectable weight. That’s a lot of weight to put on, but he’s always been at the very low end of low and as skinny as a rake. Lucy said he was “perfect” and that some of the increase could be down to muscle, but she certainly wasn’t worried. Phew.

Last year I changed him to a different brand of dog food. The one I had used for my dogs for nearly 20 years just didn’t seem to suit him at all and we couldn’t get him to gain weight. I looked into it and checked on various forums and a name that kept coming up as being a good quality food was Skinner’s Field and Trial.

I’ve got him on their Duck and rice variety for dogs with sensitivities – and it suits him very well. He looks sturdier. And it’s half the price of the other food which is a bonus.

Scout has started training classes. She seems to grow before your eyes and is almost as tall as Dusty now. It’s difficult to get a photo of them standing together because when we’re at home, they’re normally rolling around the floor snorting and snuffling!

Settled after a walk

Did you see Spring? It lasted all of two days and now we seem to be back in Autumn! It’s all topsy-turvy.

It was nice while it lasted

  1. Spring? When? I missed that. We live on the top of a hill and our house has been shrouded in cloud and mist today.

Like Dusty, I've gained weight too, but I'm not so happy about it. ;)

    1. It was two days last week - I even got the kids ice creams and undid the zip on my winter jacket on one of the days :-)

Hm, same here with the weight gain - the difference between me and Dusty is that he still has a waist :-)

  2. Oh what gorgeous photos, Teresa. And such fabulous news about Dusty. How lovely that he and Scout get on together so well too and obviously have such fun.

Yep I saw spring too fleetingly. Then it sprung away pronto. Today I was in hat and gloves again it was SO cold. For heaven's sake ...:-(

    1. I heard the same, Sue - the weather will improve just as the poor old kidlets have to go back to school!

Scout is tiring Dusty out - as soon as she goes home, he's zonked :-) xx

  3. Dusty and Scout look so happy, Teresa, and you must be relieved to find the right diet for Dusty. It's supposed to get warmer from the weekend but it's cold and rainy here today!

    1. I hope you're right, Rosemary - we really do need some warmer weather now don't we. Perhaps summer will last a long time like winter did - we can but hope :-)

  7. Great news on the food front for Dusty. Charlie has allergies that mean he is on anti histamine's all year round. This is a tad expensive but luckily his insurance covers it. He is on James Well Beloved at the moment but the sensitive variety. Flossie eats anything of course (and everything). Lovely photos and hopefully this week's warmer weather will entice you out with your camera for another bout! Spring again?? :-) X

    1. James Wellbeloved food is very good isn't it (Harley is on that) - that would have been the next thing we tried. Is Charlie on human antihistamines? I used to give Indy a Piriton tablet years ago (when he was stung on the face by a bee for instance!) Still waiting for it to warm up, but the sunshine is lovely :-) x

    2. Hi Teresa, Charlie gets his from the vet but I have been told by a friend that Piriton would be just as good. When he runs out I do give him half of one of Sainsbury's own! As insurance covers his dosage I suppose the vet actually works out cheaper these days. Have just taken Floss in for more blood tests - suspected Pancreatitus (temp of 103.9) has been discounted but she has an inflamed liver. May be just a blip apparently but get the results Friday. Animals eh? XX

    3. Poor Floss - I will keep my fingers crossed for her and you. A worrying time waiting for test results and we do worry don't we? xx
