Hooray for Harley

This time last year at not a lot more than a year old, Harley had gingivitis and had to have her teeth cleaned because they were smothered in tartar at the back. They did lots of tests at the same time, chief suspect being Feline calicivirus.

All came back clear. But FC can give a false negative and our vets still suspect this is the culprit. Six months ago her gums were still red and Neal said she would almost certainly need her teeth cleaned at her next appointment and possibly a repeat of the tests.

She has dental food, dental treats, L-lysine chews and Plaque off (thanks again Pat!) and at her six-month check-up yesterday her teeth were clean. Gums a bit red (but nothing like as bad as before). Tom said they probably look worse than they are and she shows no sign of soreness or pain.

I was so pleased that her teeth were at least clean. Such a contrast to last year when they were so bad, they didn’t know if she’d have to have any removed (she didn’t). She passed the rest of her health check with flying colours and has even put on a little weight!

So for Harley a grand start to the New Year. Something I am very happy about and thankful for.

Hope everyone reading this has something good going for them just now and that it carries on.

  1. So pleased to hear about Harley. When a loved one is ill, it affects everything you do, be it animal or human. I have taken a giant leap and started up a new blog on Wordpress. You can find me here: www.outofyorkshireblog.wordpress.com

  5. I'm so pleased for Harley, Teresa. She's certainly looking very contented and healthy. I've been giving ours the Hill's Science dental food and the vet thought it was helping, especially in Muffin's case as he is prone to excess tartar too. xxx

    1. It's a worry with cats isn't it, Joanna when it's difficult to clean their teeth. Harley has James Wellbeloved dental food. Thankfully she loves it - she's the only cat I've ever known who won't eat chicken, tuna or sardines or any soft food xx

    1. It is so hard to get decent pics of her, Sue. Usually she sees the camera and shuts her eyes or looks the other way - so I was pleased to get any photo at all :-) xx

    2. She looks as if she's about to ask you to 'peel me a grape there slave' - or rather to unwrap a favourite titbit and feed it to me morsel by morsel!! ;-) xx

    1. Thanks, Deb - it was a lovely surprise. I'd even worked out which days we could take her in for the dental because I was so sure she'd need a clean xx
