Scary webs!

I can’t believe how much Dusty’s grown. Neither can poor Fizz. She says she’s sure he didn’t used to weigh half a ton when he jumped on her. I was feeling sorry for her, thinking maybe she wasn’t enjoying the rough play, until the other night in the garden when she crept up behind him, grabbed his backside with both paws and bit his bum!

He’s met a few more dogs off the lead and every time he whimpers and yelps and hurls himself at the feet of the owners waving his legs in the air. Usually they oblige and give his tummy a tickle and occasionally they’ll give him a treat. Hm, I wonder how scared he really is. Maybe he’s just figured out the minute he goes all loopy people make a big fuss of him!

On Sunday he met a new little dog. She ran up to him barking, wanting to play and he did his usual wimp act. The owner was ever so apologetic and said she hoped it wouldn’t give him a complex. I had to explain that he always acts like that and her dog had done nothing wrong.

He loves to have something to carry as we walk along, so I let him have the tennis ball. It stops him picking up stones and other such undesirables!

He found his first stinky ditch yesterday. I thought we’d have to fish him out, but he managed to get out on his own – and back in – and out – and in – and out…

There are a lot of these down near the marshes. No, not the rape fields, although there are quite a few of those which make for sore throats and tight chests (especially when you take the path right through the middle of one – I won’t be making that mistake again). I mean the webs in the bushes.

Some more – a bit closer.

Closer still.

They are the caterpillars of brown tail moths I believe and not to be messed with!

  1. I think Dusty might be having you on in order to get extra treats and tickles. He looks so innocent he probably is up to something.

    1. He does things before I ask him in anticipation of getting a treat, Patsy - and he is ALWAYS up to something x

  2. How do you keep your cat at home? I've tried to keep cats here, but they always escape.

    1. I don't know, Maria. Female cats are supposed to stay closer to home than males and they don't seem to wander far away x

  3. We don't have a cat now, but when I was living at home we used to let our cat out at night. I have often wondered since, should cats be put out at night or not? Maybe it depends on the cat, but I would love to know what the experts think. Dusty looks adorable and has already fathomed out to wrap you round his little paws.

    1. I think it depends on what the cat wants, Maggie. They both go out in the evening, then Harley comes in when we go to bed, but Fizz often stays out. If she stays in, she'll wake me up jumping at the door wanting to be out (still waiting for cat flap to be fitted!) x

  4. Funny how dogs love horrible smells. Anyone who could come up with a fox poo lookalike that smelled of Chanel No. 5 could make a fortune.

    1. Good idea, Frances! Or something to apply to their coat so that when it comes into contact with stinky ditch/dead animal/fox poo it turns sweet smelling x

    1. I hadn't thought of that, Sue, but there could be a spooky story there x

  6. Dusty is certainly a cute wee dog and sounds like he knows how to get on already! I agree those bushes look very spooky.

    1. He grows in confidence every day, Rosemary which is both satisfying and scary! And today I caught him just as he was getting his shoulder down in some fox poo, so I think we have another roller! I shall have to stock up on tomato juice x

  7. Dusty is so gorgeous, Teresa, and has such a lovely personality. He also has a lovely life with all those fantastic places for walks. It must be so exciting for him to make new discoveries. But those webs really are spooky.
I sympathise with the rape fields. We all have itchy eyes and streaming noses. xx

    1. He finds everything exciting and he's just discovered that if he runs after them, birds fly which he thinks is great fun. Those rape fields might be tolerable if they were dotted about, but there are so many of them! Blinking things x

  8. We're surrounded by rape fields, and they do create havoc with the sinuses. Oh, Dusty is growing into a proper springer. He's lovely. Hope Fizz doesn't make a habit of biting him. And, those webs look like something from outer space. I know they'll creep into a story. Look forward to reading it. Lots of love to all xxxx

    1. Horrible stuff isn't it.
Yes he's definitely springing everywhere. This week he has mostly been discovering fox poo and the muddy marshes :-) x

  9. Hi human, Teresa,

So sorry I've not been visiting you much lately. My poor human and I got attacked by the letters of the alphabet. Yes, a long story....

Us doggies sure can grow up fast. We also have to keep the cats in line. Of course, being a Jack Russell, I didn't grow that much. Still, the cats are my adoring fans. Dusty looks adorable. I'd love to grab the ball. Arf!

Time to go rub myself in fox poo. My humans always appreciate that.

A pawsitive weekend to you, my dear human friend.

Penny the Jack Russell dog and modest internet superstar! :) x

    1. Dusty sometimes looks like a Jack Russell when he's speeding around - apart from the hairy ears. He says you are his role model, Penny x
