Purr Machine

On Thursday, Harley went in to be spayed. When we picked her up after, the nurse advised us to keep her and Fizz apart for the first night and said Fizz might be a bit hissy as Harley would smell of the vet’s. We planned to anyway. They play very rough.

There was a lot of hissing and a squirrel’s tail when we got home – from Fizz...

I have yet to hear Harley hiss or growl. Then Harley spent most of the evening asleep. Now she is back to her usual bouncy self and trying desperately to get Fizz to play with her. We’re only letting them be together under supervision though.

I’ve never had a cat with attitude like Fizz before (sweet as she is). I thought it was because she was female (I’ve always had male cats), but Harley is extremely laid back and easy going so I guess it isn’t that (and yes, that's a pair of my socks she's cuddled up with).

People tend to think Harley is a boy because of her name. She came by it because after she and her brother were rescued by Paws and Mittens, they were named Harley and Quinn (after the Joker’s sidekick in Batman, Harley Quinn).

She suits the name though because she purrs like this!

I have never known a cat that purrs so much! You only have to look at her and off she goes.

I still have the cold. I can’t remember the last time I had anything that hung on like this or a cough that kept me awake most of the night. Not that I’m moaning. Well, maybe a little bit. I’m just fed up with it now.

At least I finished the book about the avian flu pandemic. Thank goodness! Sitting up in bed in the wee small hours coughing my guts up reading about people coughing their guts up and dropping dead wasn’t exactly comforting reading.

Now I’m reading A Book of Horrors which I bought for 92 pence on Kindle. It’s quite a mixed bag of stories and there are a few I haven't finished, but I felt the Stephen King story alone made it worth the purchase. I also enjoyed the story by John Ajvide Lindqvist and I haven’t finished the anthology yet.*

I think I need to read something funny next!

*Since writing this post, I've now read stories by Ramsey Campbell, Robert Shearman and Lisa Tuttle in A Book of Horrors and I am very pleased I bought it, especially at such a good price.

  3. Your post caught my attention because I just had my cat spayed this week as well- and she looks identical to your cat! Anyway, I also noticed that you finished reading "Pandemic" and am wondering if it was any good- besides all the people coughing while you were up coughing- LOL? I just finished reading "Chasing A Miracle" by Eliot Hartford Bailey http://eliothbailey.com/ and loved it- it was my first book that I had read about pandemics! I loved it so much that I could really see it made into a movie! I have seen a few things about "Pandemic" and thought I might try it. I wanted to get your feedback on it. Is it worth checking out?

    1. Hope your cat is recovering well, Ashley. The book I read was called "The Things That Keep Us Here" by Carla Buckley. Thanks for the tip about Chasing a Miracle, I'll check it out x

    1. Thanks, Rosemary - I really should stop feeling so sorry for myself! Harley is doing well - she keeps chasing Fizz wanting to play and of course, Fizz obliges, but it gets very rough x

  6. Harley's purr brought T&T running in - barking! Peter's son used to ride a motor bike, maybe thery thought he was paying a visit.
Hope your cold disappears soon, Teresa, and tell Fizz to go easy on Harley *smile*

  7. Teresa, please tell me why you're writing a book about flu? I really need to know.

  9. I hope you feel much better soon, Teresa, and I loved reading about Fizz and Harley's different personalities. They are both such beautiful cats. Our Holly purrs all the time, but the sweetest sounds come from Brian, who chirrups like a bird when you stroke him. x

Never read a book about flu- of any type- while you're ill...:-)

Lovely to see and hear about Harley and Fizz.

  11. What a beautiful puss cat. Hope you all recover soon. My cats are purrers too, but one of them adds dribbling to that - it can get very messy. At the moment they are both snuggled up together as cute as can be, last night they were chasing each around the living room and biting lumps out of each other. Typical brothers!

    1. Aw our last cat Sammy used to be a dribbler! Gets very soggy when they're happy doesn't it - he used to end up blowing bubbles as well! They are funny aren't they - trying to murder each other one minute and all curled up and snuggly the next x

  12. Is that Fizz in the Tesco pet insurance advert? If not, then why not? You have a star in the making there.

  13. I hope you're feeling much better soon. My husband had a lurgy and was coughing and sneezing all last week and has now generously passed it on to me!

I love that Harley is cuddling a pair of your socks, so sweet. I hope Fizz is feeling much happier soon.

  14. "A Likely Story" has been included in the A Sunday Drive for this week. Be assured that I hope this helps to point even more new visitors in your direction.

  15. I hope Harley makes a speedy recovery and that she eases the rawness of Indy's passing Teresa. I still miss Keano though my two year old grandson, Leon, seems to think Flossie can go and see him. Mind you, Leon is the one who told me his birthday is in Apricot... I must catch up with my reading, you seem to be managing to! I am glad you are recovering form your cold and hope the other nasty bugs that seem to be going round keep away. My youngest daughter has been back at full time work just over a week and I have already had to step in and take the youngest to the doctor's this morning - no nursery for him. Great photos as usual by the way :-)

    1. She's doing great, thanks. And yes, having her has been such a comfort - especially to Fizz. It's partly why we got another cat because we knew when we lost Indy it would hit Fizz as well as us very hard.

      Dear little Leon.

So many nasty bugs about at the moment - hope everyone is soon well again x
