Today is the Day!

Fizz is at the vet’s to be spayed and micro-chipped. I know a lot of places will do kittens earlier than 6 months, but our vets like to wait until they weigh at least 2 kilos. Which she does.

She’s been so desperate to go outside and although she’s been out a few times – supervised – the worry has always been that she’ll escape.

We’ve had her for four months now and it is incredible how much she’s grown. I had forgotten how fast they change from tiny kittens...

 to young cats...

I asked the nurse for advice about whether to get another kitten to keep her company as I’ve never had one alone before, and she said that if we have a lot of cats living nearby – we do – she would make friends if she wants to. Still tempted though.

There is a young cat near us who comes up and looks at her through the window. Always the same one. He (or she, I’m not sure) is only about a year old and very pretty. I hope they’re looking forward to meeting up and being friends – and not trying to murder each other!

She likes to curl up with Indy beside my chair – that’s when she isn’t playing with the wires under my desk or turning off the switch which shuts everything down!

Sometimes Indy doesn’t realise she’s already on the bed – and you know how cats don’t like to move – he flops down on top of her. There’s no screeching or anger from her though, she just wriggles out from underneath and settles back down next to him.

He trips over her sometimes as he can’t see her, but she does have to learn to get out of his way.

She adores him and follows him round everywhere, but I think it still puzzles her that he won’t play, no matter how much she chases his tail or pats his face. He seems a little lost today without his little shadow.

She’s destroyed most of my indoor plants, climbs up the curtains, pulls up the carpets, throws things on the floor, stamps on my keyboard, turns off the modem… And she curls up on my chest, puts her paws round my neck and gives the most wonderful cuddles.

Indy's not the only one missing her!

  1. You can forgive then anything, can't you. How Fizz has grown! It's the opposite with Bobs and Bon. Bonnie brings toys for Bobbie and drops them at his feet hopefully, but Bobbie just gives him a disdainful look! Hope the op goes well.

    1. Thanks, Wendy - it all went very well! I think they gave her crazy juice instead of anaesthetic though. Oh bless her, Bonnie - I wonder if it's some sort of male pride thing :-) x

    1. He was so pleased when I brought her home and gave her a good sniffing, Sue. I think he was quite puzzled as to where his furry hot water bottle had gone :-) x

  3. The thought of Indy flopping on top of her and her having to tunnel out made me smile. Good thing cats are wriggly.

    1. It is funny, Patsy! And sometimes I see him sprawled out where she was a few seconds before and fly into a panic, then I'll see her sitting over the other side of the room going, "What's up with you?" :-) x

    1. Thanks, Mandy. She's the first cat I've ever had that had to have one of those Elizabeth collars put on - that's an hour of my life and several pieces of my skin I'll never get back ;-) x

    1. Well she zoomed everywhere when she got back from the vet's, was on the go most of the evening and half the night, but finally flaked out just before lunch and has had a nice long sleep, Rosemary! Unfortunately she's decided to sleep on Indy's bed and I have to keep stopping him from getting on there. He's downstairs on the sofa in a huff now :-) x

  9. Get well soon, Fizz. Btw how do you persuade cats and dogs to get along? My daughter's Humphrey (dog) is makign the life of the cat (Phyllis) hell. Fortunately, the other dog (Goeffrey) is too...er...large to chase her up the stairs.

    1. With great difficulty if they don't want to, Frances. When we got Tilly she hated my cats on sight and I thought that things would settle down within a couple of weeks. They didn't and she and the cats disliked each other to the end, but learned to tolerate each other! She had had a traumatic experience with a cat before we got her though. Have they tried having a babygate between them - I'm told this sometimes helps them get used to each other. Good luck :-) x

    1. They can be very sweet together, Rena - they are also partners in crime. She knocks a bag of Indy's treats on the floor for him, but neither of them have figured out how to open it - yet :-) x

  11. This is a lovely post, Teresa, and gorgeous photos. Fizz is the most lovely and loving kitten.
Our Holly is two now and we're so tempted to have a new kitten for her to play with. Our older cats keep well out of her way and ignore all her attempts to start up a good game. I love the way that kittens are never deterred and keep on finding ways to amuse themselves. xxx

    1. I bet Holly and Fizz would have a great time together, Joanna! Holly sounds like another live wire! That is so true - if they want to play, there's no stopping them. I can't believe how quickly she's back to normal, but she did sleep more than usual yesterday :-) x

  15. How lovely to see Fizz growing so fast! I am sure Indy is pleased to have her back as his shadow. Flossie is missing Doris (my daughter's bull dog) and we are being tempted to bring another pup into the house. I really need to wait until after Christmas - so tempting though! :-)

  16. Hi I've been AWAL for a while! But it is nice to be back. I do love your stories and I can identify with you *totally* when it comes to our furbabies! I adore mine - he's 14 and as cranky as anything, stuck in his ways and I think he's getting doggy dementia. He goes outside for a pee. Stops, looks back at me as if to say "why am I here again?" I shoo him off and then he remembers that he needs to go doggy things in the garden. Caroline x

    1. Oh bless him, Caroline! They are funny the way they get cranky about things aren't they. It's such a palaver here getting Indy to go out for his last thing at night wee. My daughter's dog is on Activait for his dementia and they are amazing - if only there was something like that for people :-) x
