Blogger has always been
pretty good when it comes to picking out spam comments – sometimes they’ve been
a little over enthusiastic and put genuine comments in the spam folder, but I
always find them and put them in the right place.
However, recently I’ve
noticed a lot of spam is slipping through. I don’t want to set up the thingy
where you have to copy letters and numbers as I know that annoys a lot of
people. I could do comment moderation, but I prefer to do it the way I do.
I check up on dodgy looking
comments as soon as I see the notification email, then I report them as spam
and they are moved to the spam folder.
So if you see any dodgy
looking comments here, please ignore them.
It seems that everyone has
been affected to some degree by the nasty stomach bugs doing the rounds at the
moment. Most of my children and grandchildren have had it – poor Imogen had it particularly badly -
and I thought I’d escaped unscathed. Foolish, foolish me!
Normal service will be
resumed… well, sometime I hope!
Hope it "passes" quickly.
ReplyDeleteI think I'm on the other side of it now, L :-) x
DeleteSo sorry you've been feeling bad, Teresa. I have only just been told (thanks Tracy) that I had the annoying letters and numbers thingy on my blog - sorry - didn't realise!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Wendy. The codes stop the spam, but sometimes they are illegible. You can change them though and keep changing till you find something you can read :-) x
DeleteAww, hope you feel better soon, Teresa
ReplyDeletexxPat
air-licks from T&T
Thank you Pat and Tim 'n' Ted - I love those air licks :-) x
DeleteI've probably got the letters and numbers on mine, too. How do you take them off? Hope you're better soon, Teresa!
ReplyDeleteYou haven't, hydra :-) Thank you x
DeleteGet well soon Teresa. So sorry you're not well. xx
ReplyDeleteThank you, Sue :-) x
DeleteHi Teresa,
ReplyDeleteAs of late, I've found blogger to be awful at picking up spam comments. No, this isn't one. Honest! :) They keep targeting a certain posting of mine, over and over again. If the comments are actually on the posting, I do a permanent delete. I have noticed the 'visits' to my site have skyrocketed... hmmmm...Even reporting the spam, hasn't been too good recently.
Hope you and all your family, get over that nasty stomach bug, very soon.
Honestly, this really isn't a dodgy comment!
All the best and please take it easy.
Gary :) x
Blinking spammers are a pain, Gary!
ReplyDeleteAs is the winter vomiting virus or whatever they call it.
Thank you for your kind thoughts :-) x
Wishing you a full and speedy recovery, Teresa. Roll on spring!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Martin. Yes spring can't come quick enough for me :-) x
DeleteHope both virus and Spam make speedy exits!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Joanne. Me too :-) x
DeleteHugs, Teresa. Hope everyone gets well soon. xx
ReplyDeleteThanks, Rena. I'm feeling much better, but my daughter is still rushed off her feet taking care of her poorly family x
DeleteI've had exactly the same problem with spam recently, Teresa. Some was very nasty and so I'm now not accepting anonymous comments. That seems to have solved it.
ReplyDeleteI may have to do that, Patsy. Thanks for the tip :-) x
DeleteGlad you're feeling better. I've just had to change the settings on my comments because I've been getting a lot of spam. I really don't want to go back to that number letter thing.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Colette. I don't either :-) x
DeleteI had the same problem with excessive spam recently, Teresa, and had to stop accepting anonymous comments. That mostly did the trick (so far) and meant I didn't have to use the awful captcha thingy. Hope you and the rest of the family are back to full strength soon.
ReplyDeleteI think perhaps when my head is back on straight I might try changing to stop anonymous comments, Rosemary :-) x
DeleteNever had the spam problem but, like you, I've had some sort of bug. Not a stomach problem but aching all over and with a cough. Hope you feel better soon. It's taking me a while to shake off the after-effects.
ReplyDeleteSounds horrible, Keith. Those coughs seem to be lingering longer than ever - hope you're back to fitness soon :-) x
DeleteWhy do the spammers have to spoil it for everyone else? Our family haven't escapted some bug or other during the past month or so. Yes, roll on the spring.
ReplyDeleteVery annoying isn't it, Maggie. Spring can't be far away can it :-) x
DeleteHope you start feeling better soon, Teresa.
ReplyDeleteI've had a recent upsurge in spam, and after a few got through I now find some of it goes into awaiting moderation. I've put my settings so that anyone commenting on a post from over a couple of weeks goes into moderation until I click and say it's okay- most is spam.
But I have noticed a few anonymous that start out like a normal post but add the spam bit at the end, but Blogger is now recognising it as spam.
So hopefully the situation will improve.
It's got beyond a joke hasn't it, Carol. I've changed my settings now not to allow anonymous comments x
DeleteHello Teresa,
ReplyDeleteI'm suffering from a lot of spam too, but have opted not to change my settings just yet. I am deleting iffy looking messages on a daily basis, and can't understand how they are all getting through the net at Blogger?
Maybe someone knows?
Hope you are feeling better soon.
Thank you, Maria. I changed my settings and (touch wood) the spam has stopped. It is quite a relief not to have to keep checking all the time :-) x
DeleteHi Teresa, hoping you are feeling much better by now! Pity we can't avoid all those bugs in the same we can stop computer viruses and spam eh? :-)
ReplyDeleteWouldn't that be great, Deborah :-) x
DeleteHope you're feeling better soon Teresa. We've all had it as well.xx
ReplyDeleteHope you are soon well again, Sue :-) x
DeleteGet well soon, Teresa! I had it before xmas too - pretty exhausting, I know...
ReplyDeleteI'm absolutely fine, thanks Pat, but now a new and different virus is hitting all the kids. It never seems to end x
DeleteIt is also really bothering me that quite a few spam comments have been getting through the Blogger spam filter lately. For one of my main arguments against making readers have to jump through that awful word verification hoop in order to leave a comment was that 99% of spam comments are caught by the spam filter automatically. It still catches most of them, but the percentage has to be down well below 90% by now.
ReplyDeleteStopping anonymous comments has worked for me, but at the same time I worry it has stopped genuine comments from people who have to use the anon option. It seems a common problem, Jerry x
DeleteI have struggled with the same dilemma. For there are a few out there who do not want to establish a screen name with anyone. So, I will just keep trying to quickly get rid of all of the spam that gets through, but it sure gets to me from time to time. Hearing from people like yourself certainly helps. Thank you!
DeleteI was keeping on top of it for a while, Jerry, but in the end I was being bombarded by spam and spending so much time getting rid of it I gave up. You'd think these spammers would have better things to do wouldn't you x
